Summer Reads

June is finally here--let the summer begin!  As the school year winds down, the fortress of fiction beside my bed has stacked up grandly.  I will want for nothing when it comes to good reading material this season.  Looking for a great book? See below for a few suggestions, or check out my Shelfari bookshelf via the tab above.

5 books to read this summer:
1.        The Vanishing of Katharina Linden by Helen Grant
2.       A Visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan
3.       The WeirdSisters by Eleanor Brown
4.       Caleb’sCrossing by Geraldine Brooks
5.       The Book of Lost Things by John Connolly

*And if you still haven’t read The Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery, you simply MUST check it out.  It is the most beautiful book I have ever read. Period.
Happy Reading!

Today's Gratitude List:
  • a great weekend with great friends
  • homemade enchiladas
  • quiet time
  • my floppy sun hat

  1. I agree. The Elegance of the Hedgehog was a gem, full of wonderful bits of wisdom.

On my wishlist this summer is Emma Donoghue's Room and The Paris Wife. I will be checking out Jennifer Egan's book. Thanks for the recommendations.

  2. Ah yes! The Paris Wife is another one on my list. So many books to read - very excited for some much needed leisure time over the next few weeks!

  3. I haven't read any of those books! I will add them to the list at once. I love your gratitude list too - a wonderful way to remember the little things that make life special. Enjoy the sunshine x

  4. Niki,

WOW- a book I had not heard of and you say it is amazing! I'm so excited! You know what a book freak I am so I have already added the Hedgehog book to my must read list.

Not that I need more to read but I was at another blog and they published the BBC's Top 100 Books- a bit weighted toward Brit fiction but still plenty of stuff I have not read (and am not sure I will ever get through Joyce's Ulysses!).

Thanks again for the great ideas!

  5. just been enoying your wonderful blog, but had to check out your summer reads... i am just off to our beach house with 8 library books, incl the goon squad. i have read, or have all of those on my tbr list, along with several 100 others, nice to meet another avid reader.

have you been to library thing? if you look at my blog its on my sidebar, great site to keep track of your books and share with others, you may want to play there too~
